Reconnect with nature on a 3 days / 2 nights adventure into Cambodia’s protected rainforest of Cardamom Mountains. Set out from Phnom Penh, Koh Kong, or Sihanoukville and venture to the rugged village of Andoung Tuek, the gateway to one of Cambodia’s most remote and wild regions. From here, a dirt road leads you to the ecotourism community of CHI PHAT, where you’ll have lunch before continuing to the Wildlife Release Station. Your forest chalet awaits for your first night amidst the dense jungle.

Things to Consider
Be prepared for potential rain and humidity in the rainforest.
Pack appropriate clothing and footwear. It’s a good idea to bring a backpack to carry essentials for the trek, like water, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
The motorbike tour might be dusty or muddy depending on recent weather conditions.
The tour might not be suitable for people with medical conditions.
Day 1: Your journey into the Cambodian Jungle through a volcanic dust-road
6:30 am – Departure to Chi Phat:
– In th morning our driver will pick you up at your Hotel in either Phnom Penh or Koh Kong or Sihanuouk Ville. We drive around 2-3 hour through the Cambodian countryside to small port of Andoung Tuek village, located in south-western Cambodia, in Botumsakor District.
– After that we take dirt road through the farm to reach the abandoned village of Chi Phat.
Chi Phat Trekking on a Jungle Trail
12:00 pm – Arrive in Chi Phat:
– Chi Phat is an ecotourism community which was started in 2007 by an NGO called Wildlife Alliance. It attracts more and more adventurous tourists due to it’s well maintained network of jungle trails and wildlife.
– After arrival we register at the Community-based ecotourism (CBET) office.
12:30 pm – Lunch at CBET office:
– We have a local style lunch at CBET office.
– After Lunch you meet our guide and local eco-community member, making sure that you feel comfortable in starting your adventure.
14:30 pm – Rainforest motorbike ride:
– You’ll embark on a 1-hour motorbike taxi ride through the lush rainforest of the Cardamom Mountains.
– Your experienced motorbike driver and helmets provide for your safety.
15:30 pm – Arrival at Wildlife Release Station:
– Arrival at Wildlife Release Station around 15: 30 PM and check in your Bungalow and take a short rest.
– Located remotely in the Cardamom Mountains, the Wildlife Release Station (WRS) is one of the main sites used by Wildlife Alliance for releasing/reintroducing the animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trafficking trade in Cambodia. Animals suitable to release are kept in the safe-release enclosures around in the station before reintroduction to the wild.
15:30-16:00 pm: Animal feeding at the Wildlife Release Station
– Get ready to help feed animals and discover more about fascinating Cambodian species like sun-bears, macaques, pangolins, and others.
– This is a unique opportunity to connect with wild animals and contribute to the project’s efforts in protecting this remote forest and its diverse wildlife.
Freshly cooked local dinner
Have a freshly cooked local dinner at the Wildlife Release Station.
09:00pm – Spotting wildlife in the night:
After your dinner around 9:00 pm you might also have a chance to feed porcupine, large rodents with coats of spines (not dangerous), and watch red-muntjac, a deer species native to Cambodia, that usually show up to find their food around the chalets.
Overnight at Wildlife Release Station:
Your overnight stay at the Wildlife Release Station in comfortable chalets surrounded by protected forests is a special experience and will connect you with the nature and wildlife of Cardamom Mountains.

Day 2: Hiking from Wildlife Release Station to Damnak Khoh Campsite
09:00 am – Trekking to Damnak Khos Campsite:
After breakfast at WRS, we leave for a 5 hours hiking adventure in the deep forest of Cardamom Mountains, learning about the nature, observing wildlife such as wild pigs and gibbons, and enjoying the pure wild. A unique option to discover the nature of the Cardamom Mountains.
Lunch around noon:
After around two and a half hours walking through the beautiful natural surroundings, your forest cook and local guide will prepare delicious lunch and enjoy together in the heart of the jungle.
Trekking to reach your camp site:
With the power of your meal in the nature, your journey continues by foot with a trek to your destination camp site, Damnak Koh.
Stoeng Prat River
02:00 pm – First Swim in Stoeng Prat River:
You’ll get to enjoy a dip in the Stoeng Prat River, a perfect way to cool off after the journey. You’ll have time to change your clothes and freshen up after the trek.
Dinner:
A delicious BBQ dinner will be waiting for you to refuel after your trek and swim.
Overnight:
Overnight at Damnak Khos camp site.

Day 3: Boat trip from Damnak Khos to Chi Phat Eco Community & Departure
05:30 am – Wildlife Spotting:
– You’ll board a rowboat for a peaceful trip along the Stueng Prat River.
– This is the prime time for spotting wildlife as many animals are active at dawn. Keep your eyes peeled for birds, reptiles, and maybe even some mammals depending on the season.

06:30 am – Motorboat Ride to Chi Phat:
– A motorboat will catch up with you on the river.
– You’ll then transition to the motorboat for a relaxed journey back to Chi Phat Village.
07:15 am – Breakfast on the Boat:
Enjoy a delicious breakfast while cruising down the river.
Wildlife Watching and Exploring:
– As you travel on the motorboat, keep an eye out for more wildlife along the banks of the Stueng Prat River.
– You might have opportunities to stop and explore the surrounding nature.
09:00 am – Arrival in Chi Phat:
After your scenic journey, you’ll finally arrive at Chi Phat village, ready to check in your Bungalow.
12:00 pm – Lunch:
Have lunch at CBET office and relax in the village.
01:00 pm – Depart to your further destination
Say goodbye after these days of adventure in this wonderful protected jungle area of Cambodia and depart to Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville or Koh Kong with magical memories to be remembered for a lifetime. We’ll gladly drop you at your hotel or any desired location like PNH/SHV airport or the Sihanoukville pier to take a ferry boat.
